Woltz Ag ATV equipped with a hydraulic soil sampling probe in a harvested field

From field to recommendation

A complete soil sampling process.

The work begins before the probe ever enters the field. Sampling, recommendations, and data are planned around each grower's fields, cropping plans, and soil-test history.

01

Plan

Before fall harvest, Wes meets with growers to review soil sampling history, program requirements, crop rotation, and plans for the coming season. Together, you determine which fields need sampled and where updated nutrient recommendations are needed.

02

Sample

As fields are harvested and become available, field boundaries and sampling points are prepared in precision-ag software. An ATV-mounted hydraulic probe and GPS navigation provide consistent collection at a 6-inch sampling depth.

03

Analyze

Each sample is individually labeled, boxed, and shipped to A&L Great Lakes Laboratories in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Laboratory results are returned electronically and incorporated into the farm's field data.

04

Recommend

Results are reviewed and used to develop field-specific lime, phosphorus, and potassium recommendations. Recommendations can be reviewed and adjusted with the grower based on fertility plans and product needs.

05

Deliver

Results are organized into a bound book for the farm's records. Variable-rate recommendations are transferred electronically to the retailer of the grower's choice, and soil-test information can be provided for applicable farm-program documentation.
